Growing up I was very fortunate that I got to skate before and after the Philadelphia Flyers’ practices. I would go off the ice before too many of the Flyers came on, or when Bob Clarke kicked me off, then go back on after their practice was over. As I was skating one of Dad’s favorite sayings was “Shoot to Score”, it was a phrase I heard a million times till it sank in. What Dad was trying to teach me was to always shoot the puck hard no matter what the circumstances were. It didn’t matter if I was shooting against the boards, shooting on an empty net, or shooting on Bernie Parent, “shoot the puck as hard as you can and always Shoot to Score“. So this is what I started doing and my shot got harder and I scored more goals. But as I got older “Shoot to Score” started to mean more to me than just shooting a puck. I realized it also meant do everything to the best of your ability and “don’t do it half assed”, another one of Dad’s favorite sayings that I heard a million times! If you’re in the gym, at school, at practice, at a camp, you’re there so why not take advantage of the opportunity and work to your full potential, you will not only improve but become a stronger person. This has become an integral part of my life and I try to pass on Dad’s little lesson to as many youth as I possibly can. So when I was trying to think of a name for our hockey business I narrowed it down to two and “Don’t Do It Half-Assed” Hockey didn’t sound catchy!! Thanks for visiting our web page!
